Limestone bays, river deltas and the cheapest long-haul week we sell
Vietnam is the long-haul holiday that costs less than most short ones, which is why it has gone from a curiosity to one of the most asked-about trips on our desk. The country splits into two trips that happen to cost about the same. In the north, Hanoi is the Old Quarter, the street food and the lake, with Halong Bay's limestone islands an overnight cruise away and the rice fields and caves of Ninh Binh a day trip in the other direction. In the south, Saigon is the fast one, with the Cu Chi tunnels an hour out and the Mekong Delta's canals and floating markets a day beyond that. Delhi flies direct to Hanoi, so from Chandigarh it is a short hop and one flight. Four to five nights does one half properly; eight does both.
