The Himachal circuit the Tricity has been doing for fifty years
This is the classic Himachal loop and it belongs to Chandigarh more than to anywhere else, because the drive starts here. Shimla is only 115 kilometres away, close enough to reach by lunch, and the Kalka–Shimla toy train that UNESCO lists as World Heritage boards a half hour from the city. From Shimla the road runs on to Manali, roughly 250 kilometres through the Sutlej and Beas valleys. Doing both in one trip gives you two very different hill stations: Shimla with its colonial ridge, Christ Church and Mall Road promenade, and Manali with snow, adventure sport and the Atal Tunnel. Five to seven nights covers the circuit without spending the whole holiday in the car.
